3 Faux Stained Glass Projects You Can Make with Your Elderly Loved One

Elderly Care in Shelter Island NY

You probably already know that art therapy is a wonderful thing for people of any age, but it can especially help your elderly loved one. Here are some different ways that you can make a false Elderly-Care-in-Shelter-Island-NYstained glass that allows your loved one to express her creativity. The best part is that your loved one doesn’t necessarily need any help from you or from an elder care provider in order to tackle these projects.

Stained Glass with Tissue Paper

Tissue paper is a really easy way to mimic stained glass and your loved one doesn’t have to do anything additional to the paper if she doesn’t want to. Clear plastic plates make an excellent and sturdy base for this project. When you’re done, they hang easily and allow a lot of light to shine through. You’ll need plain white school glue that dries clear and multiple different colors of tissue paper. Scissors are optional, since you can tear the tissue paper easily into whatever shapes you want. Thin the glue with a small amount of water and then dip the tissue paper into the glue. Drape it over the plate in whatever configuration you want and let the glue dry. Once dry, hang in a window for the best effect.

Markers and Wax Paper

If glue and tissue paper aren’t your thing, you have another option. Wax paper gives a reasonable approximation of stained glass, and it’s easy to color with permanent markers. If you have a design or a pattern that you want to use, place a sheet of wax paper over the top and trace the design onto the wax paper with a permanent marker. Fill in the spaces with different colors of permanent markers. When you’re finished, hang the wax paper stained glass in a window and enjoy.

Colored Glue

Another option for using glue to make a fake stained glass effect is to dilute several small containers of plain white school glue with a little bit of water. Add food coloring to make as many different colors as you want of glue. Use toothpicks or old artist brushes to paint a thick layer of colored glue into various different designs on waxed paper. You can trace designs onto the waxed paper with a permanent marker and then paint the glue into the lines. Let the glue dry and then peel it off of the waxed paper. The benefit to using this method is that the finished product can cling directly to the glass of your window.

With all of these creative ways to make a faux stained glass decoration, you can change up your decor for every season.
