The 5-week workshop will take place Friday’s from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm at the Ed & Phyllis Wellness Institute at Stonybrook Southampton Hospital from May 31, 2019 – June 28, 2019. Attendees are encouraged to participate in all 5 weeks. The idea is based on various theories supporting the concept of repressed emotions leading to physical manifestations. As a professional dancer, community member and part owner of A & G Dance Company, Gail Baranello has a desire to help people heal through the art of dance. She attests to movement as being an effective tool to release emotions and stress to build confidence.

Each week, participants will explore emotions based on the 5 stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression & Acceptance. The objective of the workshop is to become more self-aware, connect with others, and to feel good.

Gail sees the therapeutic benefits of using words as well as exercise to heal.

This program will combine the two. There will be chairs for those who want to do their movements seated or for those who are not comfortable standing up. According to the American Dance Therapy Association, “Dance/movement therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to promote emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual.”

Gail Baranello aims to bring joy and ease to people through her workshop. Gail’s dedication is exactly why Artful Home Care has chosen to get involved. “Our community needs options to maintain quality of life, in the home and throughout the community” states Beth McNeill-Muhs.
