Reviving House Calls
Members of our East End community are seeking ways they can improve their lifestyle while aging and staying in the comfort of their home. Artful Home Care is proud to support those who choose to age in place. We provide the companionship and in-home care assistance to enhance your personal, spiritual and social needs. But what about the medical needs of those who are aging in place and may be homebound?
Up until recently, unless you were under hospice or under care after a hospital discharge, you had to leave your home to receive medical care from a doctor or nurse practitioner. Well, not anymore! House calls are back! Thanks to the revival of house calls through Dr. George Dempsey’s practice at East Hampton Family Medicine on Pantigo Rd. in East Hampton, those who are unable to get out of the house easily can now have access to in-home health care. Ms. Diane Schade, a geriatric palliative nurse practitioner is the active NP providing this life-saving service with East Hampton Family Medicine!
The national council on the aging (https://www.ncoa.org/) explains how the in-home needs of our aging population are rapidly growing. Medical house calls and private duty in-home care provide critical elements to successfully aging in place.
Diane and I spoke and she shared this with me, “A major concern of the patients I see are non-medical services such as companions and home health aides. Particularly our elderly patients that live alone and need help with their activities of daily living. Artful Home Care and medical house calls fill a huge need in our community.“ Thank you, Diane, for reviving house calls and recognizing the importance of the in-home care model!
