A Special Note on Art & Alzheimers

Home Care in Hamptons NY

Dear Friends,Home-Care-in-Hamptons-NY

This past month provided Artful Home Care the opportunity to support the arts in our community and learn more about art and the therapeutic benefits of art, music, and wellness for every age!

Artful Home Care is a proud supporter of the Parrish Art Museum Spring Fling for the second year in a row!  We raised a total of over $110,000 to benefit the children’s programs!  What an amazing event to support as we develop the creative minds of those who will be our future!  Thank you to those who lent their support!

I had the pleasure of attending the Art & Alzheimers conference at the LI Museum in Islip, New York (FYI the current exhibits are beautiful and share LI history like no other!).  There were fabulous introductions to some amazing organizations  and programs that are paving the way for integrative health care.

I would like to share with you the valuable resources we learned about at the Art & Alzheimers conference. Robin Lombardo shared an electrifying discussion about the groundbreaking  Music & Memory program. WOW, really, WOW!  If you have a loved one suffering from Dementia, Alzheimer’s or other cognitive impairments, you MUST learn about this and consider donating to help further their research.  I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about Arts and Minds, a museum based program for those with Alzhimers and their caregivers.  Executive Director Carolyn Halpin-Healy led us through the workshop and shared powerful testimony about the lives of the participants improving through the programs offered!  Lori Maldavir shared details about the Memory Café, a no cost monthly afternoon event where guests spend time listening to music, having coffee and tea with sweet treats and sharing stories. This is in Manorville (4th Tuesday of each month), Sayville, and St James, NY and I am working on getting this supported on the East End.  And Marcy Rhodes, of Making Memories through the Arts shared about her programs in making memories through movies and the arts, taking place out in Huntington.  Darlene Jyringi, Program Director at the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease at Stony Brook Medicine Neurosciences Institute, shared valuable info about the nature of this disease and how we can better understand the use of therapeutic tools to improve the lives of those with AD.    Nancy Burner, of Nancy Burner and Associates shared on the importance of quality of life and innovation.  I fully agree with Nancy’s message, “As we are in an age of conceptualism, we need to support the right brain and create innovative concepts in care.  This is the maker movement and we need to be collaborators and disruptors”.

And that we are!  Disrupting the traditional in-home care model to make way for quality of life as many people in our nation enter a new phase of life called Elderhood!  We are seeking the most innovative resources for our clients and creating educational tools to help our community, not only become educated on therapeutic art, music & wellness techniques, but also to provide useful resources. Choose Artful Home Care for your home care needs!  Call us today to learn how we can improve the quality of life for you or your loved one!

With Gratitude,
