The reason you need a support system is that you never know when you’re going to need additional support. Lean on that support network during an emergency. That’s going to allow you to be able to make the decisions you need to make without feeling alone.
Journal about How You’re Feeling
One way to deal with scary feelings and scary situations is to journal about what’s going on and what you’re feeling. You might be experiencing a combination of emotions that are so jumbled and complex that you don’t even know how you’re feeling. Untangling that in your journal can help you to understand why you might be reacting in the way that you’re reacting.
Take Additional Time Away, Even Small Amounts
It might not feel like a great idea but taking time away during a crisis is really important. That might not mean that you take a weekend getaway, but it definitely does mean taking a few minutes to collect your thoughts or take a nap. Meeting up with a friend is also a good idea. You don’t have to live and breathe emergencies to be fully involved in resolving them in the best ways possible. Do what you need to do in order to keep yourself running.
Start Planning Now for Longer Breaks
Something else you likely haven’t considered is that you need to be planning now for a longer break very soon after this emergency resolves. This does a couple of things for you. First, it gives you something to look forward to. But it also helps to ensure that you do take time away after all this extra worrying.
